The Experience:

Your journey starts at 6.00 am, where you will be picked up from your hotel in Negombo. You will be transported in an air-conditioned vehicle and provided with the services of an English-speaking chauffeur/guide. You can bring a packed breakfast if you wish to eat along the way as it will be approximately 10.30 am when we reach our destination city – Anuradhapura. This city which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site was the center of Theravada Buddhism for many years.

  • Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi – A Sacred Fig Tree, said to be a sapling from the historical Bodhi Tree under which Lord Buddha became enlightened.
  • Ruwanwelisaya – A stupa that is considered as a marvel due to its religious and architectural significance.
  • Thuparamaya – Considered the first dagaba built in Sri Lanka following the introduction of Buddhism.
  • Lovamahapaya – Known as the Brazen Palace, believed to have a roof covered with bronze tiles, built over 2000 years ago with 1600 columns.
  • Abhayagiri Dagaba – A sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site and a great monastic center.
  • Jetavanaramaya – Located in the ruins of Jetavana Monastery, once believed to be over 120 meters tall and the third tallest ancient structure.

We can even visit the Isurumuniya Temple (ticket required) located near Tissa Wewa, a massive man-made tank. The temple is famous for its ancient carvings, notably the Isurumuniya Lovers.

Note: Visiting the Atamasthana uses one entrance ticket. If you select "No Ticket," individual site tickets must be purchased separately during the tour.

Your tour of the sacred city will end around 12.30 pm. Afterward, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Negombo and your hotel.
