Located in Hambantota in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka, the Bundala National Park is a very important wintering ground for thousands of migratory water birds. The highlight of the park being the Greater Flamingo, Bundala currently boasts of about 200 species of birds making it one of the most visited sites for birdwatching in Sri Lanka. With a low country dry zone climate, the Bundala National Park consists of five brackish lagoons that are shallow while three of them includes salt pans as well. This wetland habitat attracts over 100 species of water birds alone while half of them are migrant birds. Other species include the Waterfowl, Cormorant, the Painted Stork and the Asian Openbill.
